The Master of Arts in Teaching with a specialization in Elementary Education is specifically geared toward individuals with no prior teaching experience who are interested in gaining initial teaching licensure in elementary education. Along with core courses, you will study math, natural sciences, language acquisition and reading skills. This program prepares you for licensure and will ensure that student teaching requirements are met.

This program is accredited under the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) Standards through the CAEP Accreditation System.

Residency Requirements

 

Credit Hours

  • 36 total credit hours
  • Up to 12 credit hours can be transferred in from an accredited and unconferred degree

 

Internship

  • A 3-credit hour student teaching is a required part of the M.A.T. program.

 

Licensure

  • The Education Department will verify that students have completed one of Liberty’s Virginia state-approved licensure programs. Students should verify any additional licensure requirements with their home state.
