An EdS is a postgraduate program that is designed to equip you with advanced skills and knowledge that you can apply to your profession. With an EdS in Higher Education Administration – Student Affairs, you can gain skills that translate directly into education administration or student affairs roles.
This program is a great option if you desire to gain a post-master’s degree without pursuing a PhD or other doctoral degree. If you later desire to earn your EdD, the credits in our EdS program can transfer directly into our EdD in student affairs!
A student affairs higher education degree (SAHE) program is a specific type of degree that is focused mostly on the student affairs aspects of higher education. At Liberty, our EdS program contains a similar level of depth in topics of study, but also covers a more expansive array of topics than just student affairs so that you can gain skills in many areas of higher education administration.
Student affairs can be an exciting and rewarding career, as it allows you to improve the processes and effectiveness of an institution while implementing policy that positively impacts the students who attend your institution. While many student affairs professionals work for colleges and universities, you can also pursue positions at think tanks, government agencies, and other organizations that intersect with the world of higher education.
An EdS differs from a PhD in a few ways. The most significant difference between these 2 degrees is that a PhD is a doctoral research degree that is centered around publishing original research in your field. An EdS is a postgraduate degree that is centered on mastery of the theory and praxis of education in the field.
No – an EdS is a postgraduate degree, which means that it comes after a master’s but before a doctoral degree. An EdS focuses on the main concepts that you need to apply your skills within the field. A doctoral degree also does this, but expands into research. If you desire to pursue a doctoral degree after your EdS, most of the credits in your EdS in student affairs can transfer seamlessly into our EdD in Higher Education Administration – Student Affairs.
Although a doctoral degree is generally the requirement for faculty at larger universities, community colleges and liberal arts schools may employ faculty with an Ed. S. degree in administration to teach student support classes.
Liberty is regionally accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Many of the credits you earn in this program can be applied toward our Doctor of Education (EdD) degree.
Our EdS courses are only 8 weeks long with 8 different start dates offered each year and no set login times.
You can access a wealth of resources through our top-notch research portal while completing your online degree in higher education administration.
