Women and children face unique challenges that often leave them vulnerable to oppression and exploitation. With Liberty University’s Master of Arts (MA) in Humanitarian Action and Human Rights – Women’s and Children’s Care and Advocacy, you can learn how to protect and assist women and children facing dangerous situations and human rights violations.
This degree is designed to equip you with practical, hands-on skills for use in a variety of humanitarian action roles – whether you want to shape human rights policy or serve on the front lines helping people in crisis. As you pursue your graduate degree in advocacy, you’ll explore how to handle the major social challenges of today in a manner that is grounded in biblical truth. You will also see how the local church is uniquely positioned to assist those in the greatest need.
In particular, you can prepare to address issues that are especially pertinent to women and children – including human trafficking, domestic violence, abuse, neglect, and the sanctity of human life. Our women’s and children’s advocacy degree program can help provide the tools you need to rescue and rehabilitate those who are suffering. By studying a well-rounded approach to humanitarian action, you can gain the knowledge, skills, and values needed to serve in many different capacities – from crafting government legislation to interacting face-to-face with victims of trauma and oppression.

We’ve designed our graduate degree in advocacy and human rights to give you maximum flexibility. This program is offered 100% online with 8-week courses and no set login times. Whether you’re a parent, a working professional, or have other important commitments outside of school, you’ll have the freedom you need to pursue your degree without putting your life on hold.
What Will You Study in Our MA in Humanitarian Action and Human Rights – Woman and Child Advocacy Degree Online?
In this program, you’ll study crisis and first responder training, intercultural communication, human rights law, and theological foundations for humanitarian action and human rights. You’ll also explore the history of U.S.-based and global emergency responses as well as the unique role of the church and faith-based non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in handling these crises. From there, you can examine how to steer and guide civil society, government, and international institutions toward using their power to protect and advance the rights of the oppressed.
Additionally, you will take a sequence of specialization courses that offer an in-depth look at women’s and children’s care and advocacy. You can also learn how to support and champion the rights of other vulnerable populations, such as those suffering from disabilities.
In particular, you’ll take a look at:
- Interventions made to support women and children in crisis
- Social stratification, group marginalization, racial/ethnic identities, gender inequality, disability discrimination, and other multicultural issues that impact human services efforts
- Various protection systems used to aid women, children, and vulnerable populations
- Ways that the church and faith-based NGOs can assist women and children who are facing the dark reality of abandonment, exploitation, and abuse
Lastly, you will complete a capstone course that can help you synthesize and apply your knowledge to real-life situations. That way, you can be better equipped to step into the field and start making a difference in your community – and beyond.
