Our master’s degree in geography and urban planning consists of 2 sections: core courses and urban planning courses.
You’ll begin this program of study by exploring research methods, geographic information systems (GIS), and quantitative analysis. You’ll also study human geography, historical geography, demography and populations, and economic geography. Coursework in transport geography and military geography round out the core section of this degree and prepare you to dive into urban planning courses.
In the urban planning section of this degree, you will study geography and urban planning; GIS for urban planning; and politics, strategies, and initiatives of community economic development. Admission Requirements for the MA in Geography
A regionally or nationally accredited bachelor’s degree with a 3.0 or above cumulative GPA is required for admission in good standing. Please visit our admission requirements page for more detailed admissions-related information.

- Proof of English proficiency
*There is no upfront application fee; however, a deferred $50 application fee will be assessed during Financial Check-In. This fee is waived for qualifying service members, veterans, and military spouses — documentation verifying military status is required.
**An official transcript is needed within 60 days of acceptance or before non-attendance drops for the first set of matriculated classes, whichever comes first.
