What Will You Study in Our Higher Education Master’s – Registrar Services Degree?
Understanding how colleges and universities operate is an important part of working in higher education administration. In our MEd in Higher Education – Registrar Services program, you’ll examine the American postsecondary education system through historical, administrative, political, and organizational perspectives. Your coursework will also address major issues facing colleges and universities, including institutional governance, public policy, and the responsibilities of faculty and administrators. These areas provide context for understanding how academic institutions are organized and how their decisions affect students, employees, and communities.
Beyond these foundations, you’ll explore the social and political factors that influence higher education institutions. The curriculum also addresses the economics and finances of higher education, along with student support services and retention. Through these subjects, you can develop a broader understanding of how institutions manage resources, respond to student needs, and make decisions that affect their academic communities.
Registrar services form the central focus of your specialization. You’ll study the history and professional standards of the registrar’s office while examining registration systems, balancing course schedules, academic records management, and graduation clearance procedures. Liberty’s curriculum also addresses degree audits, collaboration between academic departments, and student-centered service practices that support the daily work of registrar professionals. Alongside these operational responsibilities, you’ll explore how ethical decision-making and compliance contribute to the integrity of academic records and institutional processes.
Because enrollment decisions involve multiple departments, our program also examines strategic enrollment management and its connection to institutional planning. You’ll explore how recruitment, retention, enrollment forecasting, and academic progress monitoring relate to a university’s goals. Through policy analysis and data-informed decision-making, you can investigate the registrar’s role in supporting enrollment strategies and helping institutions evaluate student outcomes.
Technology and responsible information management are also important parts of registrar operations. In the registrar systems and data management portion of the curriculum, you’ll examine administrative processes involving academic records, registration, scheduling, and coordination across university departments. Your studies will also include research-based assignments and a capstone focused on current issues in education, offering opportunities to evaluate institutional challenges and propose solutions using research and organizational analysis. By connecting academic research with issues in higher education, you can explore approaches to addressing challenges within educational organizations.
