Healthcare chaplains spend most of their ministry time at hospitals or other medical facilities helping the injured, sick or dying find rest, healing and spiritual guidance. A healthcare chaplain is frequently responsible for counseling and helping patients through the stages of grief, understanding their illness and sometimes even anger towards their situation. Patients may request that the chaplain provide last rites or other religious services. Health-care chaplains also work directly with the families of patients, to provide support and spiritual guidance. There are also opportunities for chaplains to counsel the other healthcare professionals within the hospital or medical facility. Healthcare chaplains are fully certified and ordained and have chosen to provide the essential support and guidance they can to those who are in need at a very painful time.
If you have a passion for providing support and spiritual guidance to patients and their families, then Liberty University’s 100% online Master of Divinity in Healthcare Chaplaincy program is the perfect fit for you. The Master of Divinity in Healthcare Chaplaincy will provide chaplain training online to equip you to support patients and their families by exploring theological and cultural issues relevant to a variety of chaplaincy settings. The healthcare field needs uplifting individuals like you to present the hope of Christ in troubling times.
Liberty University’s Master of Divinity in Healthcare Chaplaincy will provide chaplaincy training to prepare you for professional Christian Ministry in healthcare, local church, and para-church settings. This chaplaincy training degree is designed to help prepare you for ministry in secular, pluralistic settings such as the workplace, campus, sports, and with first responders. As the largest private, nonprofit university in the nation and the largest university in Virginia, Liberty University will prepare you to achieve your desired goal through our veteran professors in the field and challenging curriculum to promote critical thinking skills.
Students interested in our Master of Divinity in Healthcare Chaplaincy online program who have graduated with the M.A.R. degree may transfer hours, as applicable, into the M.Div. Program. Please note that the M.Div. Degree will be conferred upon completion of all course requirements for both degrees.
Each healthcare chaplaincy course is designed to prepare you for the real-life experiences in the field. You will receive healthcare chaplaincy training in hands-on, theoretical, and explorative contexts. Contrasts between truth-claims of the major world religions in contrast to Christian theistic apologetics will be studied. An in-depth review of PTSD and Combat-related PTSD will be taught to prepare you for your outreach in the healthcare field. To complement this healthcare chaplaincy training, you will come to understand Biblically based counseling techniques and psychotherapy. In doing this, you will be challenged to become self-aware through the promotion of personal exploration and case analysis. Exploring the multi-faceted nature of Christian leadership will be conducted by understanding traits, practices, and disciplines of leaders in various sectors of cultural history.
You will have the opportunity to take part in an internship experience to receive practical hands-on training in your desired field. If you wish to take your knowledge in Chaplaincy to a higher level, Liberty provides a thesis track that can help you strategize and design solutions to problems in the current healthcare chaplaincy environment.
