If you enjoy analyzing situations, figuring out how machines work, or experimenting with new ideas, then a career in physics may be the right fit for you. Conferring Liberty University’s online Bachelor of Science (BS) in Physics could help you on your journey toward your professional goals.
Physics is a versatile science that places a heavy emphasis on logic, reason, and problem-solving. While these skills can be applied to a variety of fields, our physics degree can help you prepare for roles such as mechanical engineer, particle accelerator operator, data analyst, physicist, and more.
Backed by a brick-and-mortar campus ranked as Niche.com’s #2 Best College Campus in America for 2026
Choosing where to pursue your degree is an important decision, and it’s worth finding a program that can help you work toward your professional goals while aligning with your Christian faith. Liberty University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), offering an added level of academic credibility. The Bachelor of Science in Physics is offered 100% online, allowing you to complete your coursework without relocating.
Courses in the program are taught by professors with real-world experience in areas such as analytics, engineering, and laboratory science, helping connect theory to practical application. The curriculum is presented from a Christian perspective, allowing you to explore how biblical principles are thoughtfully integrated into scientific work. The online format is also designed to provide flexibility, making it easier to balance your studies with family, work, and other responsibilities.
Your physics degree can help you develop knowledge in mathematics, mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity, and more. You can learn principles that can be used in a career as a physicist or another related position. Plus, you will complete a capstone course that allows you to take all that you have learned and turn it into a research project that synthesizes your knowledge.
Three of our physics courses contain laboratory components. The labs are designed to be comparable to those in a residential setting, with the aim being to help you solidify the textbook concepts through firsthand experience. The labs leverage our university MATLAB site license, which allows for real-time data acquisition from an electronic sensor that is shipped to you in a lab kit – whether it be to measure motion, magnetic fields, light intensity, etc.
You’ll then analyze the data in MATLAB, which gives you valuable experience using industry-grade software. After successfully completing the lab courses, you can prepare to handle electronics, microcontrollers, and sensors as well as perform data analysis with MATLAB – all skills that can strengthen your skill set as an aspiring physicist, engineer, or other technical professional.
Upon graduation, you can have gained experience exploring physical phenomena by systematically designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, and interpreting results. You can expect to develop an understanding of fundamental physics principles, including key concepts in mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and quantum mechanics, while also learning how to apply mathematical techniques to solve complex problems. The program also invites you to examine how the cosmos and the laws of physics can be understood in light of a Creator and a biblical worldview.

*Official high school transcript requirement may be waived with college transcripts from an accredited college/university showing at least 12 earned credit hours with an acceptable GPA.
Note: A 2.0 or above cumulative GPA is required for admission in good standing.
Applicants may submit a High School Self-Certification Form in lieu of a final official high school transcript in order to enroll in up to 12 credit hours at Liberty University.
Students must submit official high school transcripts, or official college transcripts showing at least 12 credit hours earned with an acceptable grade point average (GPA) from an accredited institution, in order to register for additional courses.
The official high school transcript, GED requirement, and High School Self-Certification Form can be waived if the applicant has earned an associate degree or higher.
Final transcripts must reflect all coursework and final grades received for grades 9-12, a graduation date, and an overall GPA. (Mailed transcripts must be in a sealed and unopened envelope.)
Unofficial transcripts combined with a Transcript Request Form can be used for admission. Official transcripts are required within 60 days of the admissions decision or before non-attendance drops for the first set of matriculated classes, whichever comes first, and will prevent enrollment into future terms until all official transcripts have been received.
Before sending unofficial college transcripts, please make sure they include the following:
An acceptable official college transcript is one that has been issued directly from the institution and is in a sealed envelope. If you have one in your possession, it must meet the same requirements. If your previous institution offers electronic official transcript processing, they can send the document directly to luoverify@liberty.edu.
If the student uses unofficial transcripts with a Transcript Request Form to gain acceptance, all official transcripts must be received within 60 days of the admissions decision or before non-attendance drops for the first set of matriculated classes, whichever comes first. Failure to send all official transcripts within the 60-day period will prevent enrollment into future terms until all official transcripts have been received.
If you have military-only transfer credits (completed basic training and enlistment), you must request an official military transcript. Please go to the Military Transfer Credit webpage to request your military transcript.
If you are an international applicant, you may be required to have your international transcripts reviewed. Information regarding the transcript evaluation process for international students can be found by visiting NACES.
