Be a Hero One Class at a Time

Be A HeroThe world is broken. Over a hundred people a day die from opioid and heroin overdoses. Racial, economic, and social divisions are defining our civic identities. Anxiety and depression have become a cultural norm, and suicide rates are skyrocketing. Wars, humanitarian crises, white collar crime, human trafficking, violence, injustice, and poverty dominate our news feeds so frequently that they are becoming white noise. Daily we risk ignoring deep fractures in the souls of those around us — and the ever-widening cracks in our own. This is not okay.

This world needs heroes.

Not super-humans with laser vision or hammer-like hands. Not building-leapers or bullet-stoppers or invincible men of steel. Our world needs the human strengths of a hero: courage, kindness, self-sacrifice, leadership, and humility.

While you may not feel the tug of a cape on your shoulders today, you know the places around you that could use a hero: chemotherapy treatment rooms, struggling classrooms, boardrooms that ignore corporate social responsibility, your church, and your family. And while things can always be worse, you know they can also be better. You could make them better.

So, what’s standing in the way? What do you need to live like a hero?
