Liberty University’s 100% online Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) is designed to equip ministry professionals and pastors to advance their ministry through gospel-centered, accessible, and practical ministry skills. As one of the leading Christian colleges in the world, Liberty University’s online seminary, the Rawlings School of Divinity, was founded by leading Christian scholars and prolific theologians who deliver the advanced doctoral studies of the D.Min. Degree. For additional, hands-on ministry experience, you can take advantage of optional intensives that will connect you with peers and professors. This flexibility allows you to remain engaged full-time in the ministry God has placed you in, while still pursuing advanced doctoral studies online.
The Evangelism and Church Planting area of study for the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) program adds to the core content of the program to more fully equip students to engage with communities and individuals to share the Gospel and help plant seeds of salvation. The techniques and methods taught in the Evangelism and Church Planting courses are real-world tested by ministers and pastors with active ministry experience and will help make students more effective in their outreach ministries. With the administrative and ministry leadership skills of the online D.Min. Degree, students will be equipped for missions and church planting leadership.
Liberty University’s online Doctor of Ministry program is focused on practical ministry so that you can develop the skills and knowledge you need to better serve in your specific ministry context. The online D.Min. Degree uniquely combines three distinct and necessary components for today's engaged Christian leader: our program is gospel-centered, accessible, and practical. During your online Doctor of Ministry program studies, you will focus on practical solutions rather than theoretical research, ensuring that you will be able to use the skills and knowledge you gain from this program to solve real-world problems.
While students entering the doctoral level in ministry programs will likely have experience sharing the gospel and may even be experienced in leading new churches, students who complete the area of study in Evangelism and Church Planting will receive additional training in engaging with communities of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds to find and meet their needs through ministry. Our Evangelism and Church Planting area of study will help ministry professionals learn not only how to start a church, but how to use effective strategic evangelism to help those small communities of believers grow into thriving witnesses for the Gospel.
The core content in the online Doctor of Ministry degree provides the basis for advanced doctoral-level academic research and writing that will carry into the rest of the ministry-specific course content and thesis project. This will ensure that you are well equipped for the research and writing aspects of the degree, while also assisting you in your publishing and sermon writing. You will study fundamental Spiritual Factors of Growing Churches and the Growth and Development of the Contemporary Minister to give you a guided perspective on the important elements of ministry practice. You will be able to choose two doctoral-level electives in many areas, including Discipleship Ministry and Worship Studies, to equip you for your ministry.
The Evangelism and Church Planting area of study for the online D.Min. Degree provides advanced training in effective evangelism techniques and church leadership. You will study the essentials of leading healthy churches, whether newly planted or established congregations, and will build on your ministry experience by examining effective evangelism strategies and community development. Once you have completed the Evangelism and Church Planting area of study, you should be well versed in the latest movements in church planting and will be able to identify the most effective approaches to communities for gospel missions.
All of these courses are designed and delivered in a way to help you develop your research for the final Thesis project, which will be focused on a ministry topic of your choice.
Graduates of the online Doctor of Ministry Degree will have a terminal doctorate credential that may provide opportunities to publish academic research and pursue college-level teaching, as well as serve in a senior ministry leadership role. Students who complete the Evangelism and Church Planting area of study will be equipped for full-time gospel ministry and outreach and will be equipped to help new churches grow. These skills may lead to church and para-church administrative roles in developing and maintaining church plants, overseas missions leadership, or hands-on missions’ ministry roles.
