This course equips students with an understanding of the importance and role of health in the life of a pastor and the church, and to enable the skills needed for providing pastoral leadership leading to a healthy, growing, and multiplying twenty-first century church. Emphasis will be placed on church health/growth, church planting, church multiplication, and postmodern ministry factors.
DMIN 810, Admission to DMIN program
This course will provide students with direction for leading healthy churches by focusing on biblical elements of leadership and biblical characteristics of a healthy church. The point is not to analyze these aspects in the abstract but to enable leaders to assess and move a church in a healthier direction.
Measurable Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the facets of health and its applications within a church ministry context.
- Assess the vitality of health as associated with the various facets of ministry within a church context.
- Construct a health program for implementation within a church ministry context.
- Analyze the nature and function of intimacy within the leadership and membership of a church ministry.
- Construct a plan for personal spiritual intimacy for use in a church ministry context.
- Implement a strategy for multiplication resulting from spiritual reproduction within a church ministry context.
- Analyze the use of personal time and financial resources, leading to efficient and effective usage.

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in Module/Week 1.
Discussion Board Forums (2)
Discussion boards are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge and biblical principles and/or Scripture. Any references must be in current Turabian format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words.
- Part 1
The student will locate 2 ministry leaders with whom he/she serves and conduct an analysis of each leader’s church or ministry using the provided Church Health Analysis Questionnaire. The student must also collect information regarding each participant’s credentials.
- Part 2
Based on the analysis from Part 1 of this assignment, the student will write complete the church analysis and create a plan based on the instructions provided. Any references used must be in current Turabian format.
The student will write Book Critique of at least 1,000 words on the Marshall and Payne text.
- Annotated Bibliography
The student will research and compose a bibliography of at least 25 works related to the Leading a Healthy Church Paper in current Turabian format. Each source must also have a 1–3entence annotation.
The student will write a research paper of at least 4,500 words in current Turabian format that focuses on the idea of leading a healthy church with specific application to the student’s own ministry context. The student must cite at least 20 scholarly sources in current Turabian format in the paper.
Strategic Budget Document
The student will create a realistic budget proposal regarding the budgeting of his/her time and his/her church’s/ministry’s finances. The student will follow a provided sample document to complete both budgets.
Reading Quizzes (6)
Each quiz will cover the Reading & Study material for the assigned module/week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 short answer and 2–3 essay questions, and have a 1-hour time limit.
