Steps to Claim Your Liberty University Account

Note: For a visual version of the instructions, check out our video tutorial on how to claim your account.

Let’s get started:

  1. Click the following link to begin: www.liberty.edu/account.
  2. A “Claim Your Account” page will open. Fill out the information for Last Name, Liberty ID Number, Social Security Number, Date of Birth, and Zip Code.

Please note: The Liberty University IT HelpDesk cannot provide you with your student ID number. Online (LUO) students who do not know their student ID number should call (800) 424-9595 to speak with a New Enrollment Specialist.

Final Steps to Claim Your Account:

  1. Click Next.
  2. Answer questions that relate to the University Policy on Account Use.
  3. As you come to the end of the process, you will be required to set up personal security questions and your unique password.

Pick 3 different personal security questions and answer them accordingly.

  • The answer you provide must be at least 3 characters in length.
  • The security questions are case sensitive, so you should enter the answers in a way that you will remember. We recommend that you write the answers down and keep them in a safe place.
  • If you cannot answer the security questions exactly as you type them here, you will not be able to reset your password using the Forgot Password process in the future.

Create a password of your choice based on the guidelines explained on the page.

  • Ensure it is at least 10 characters in length
  • Contains at least 1 capital letter
  • Contains at least 1 lowercase letter
  • Contains at least 1 number or special character
  • The following characters are not recommended for use in passwords: ( % _ $ ; ( ) [ ] { } ‘ “ * ? @ /
  • If you are claiming your Liberty Network Account in Internet Explorer, you may encounter an issue where no matter how strong the password that you enter is, the strength indicator bar will stay at 0%. This is a known issue with Internet Explorer. As long as you are sure your password meets all requirements, you can continue. Google Chrome is the preferred browser for all of Liberty’s systems.

Once your password is set up, please follow the steps below:

    1. Click Continue to complete the process.
    2. The next page should display your username and email address. Using this username and the password that you just created, you will be able to log into the Liberty website and access all the resources available to you, such as your Liberty email, ASIST, and Financial Check-in.
    3. Once the account has been claimed, it may take up to 2 hours before the account is fully activated.

For further assistance, please call the IT HelpDesk at (866) 447-2869 or (434) 592-7800, and we will be happy to assist you!

I Claimed My Account — What Now?

Once your account is claimed and fully activated, you will have access to a variety of resources. When you are logged into your account, a sidebar will appear on the right of your screen. The sidebar features a list of useful resources available for students, staff, and faculty.

Here is a quick overview of some vital resources:

    • Blackboard — Blackboard is a virtual learning application that gives you access to your course information and materials. Blackboard will hold your class content, homework, tests, discussion boards, and more.
    • ASIST — The Automated Student Information Services Tool (ASIST) is a resource center used for registering for classes, completing financial aid, seeing admissions information, and used for accessing your academic information as a student.
    • Microsoft Outlook or Webmail email account — Liberty will send out important instructions regarding classes and other requirements for your education. Your student email is the official communication method for students, professors, and academic departments. Please regularly check your student email for updates and important messages, as this will be the only email account we will send information to from here on out.
