Admission Requirements

  1. Apply online or download an application for admission and submit it via mail.
  2. A $50.00, non-refundable, application fee will be assessed at time of application (waived for servicemembers and veterans).
  3. Official college transcripts (sealed, unopened copy).
  4. Submit a Statement of Purpose
    • The Statement of Purpose is an opportunity to demonstrate to application reviewers why you wish to pursue a doctoral degree at Liberty University, and also to showcase graduate-level writing abilities for their consideration. Applicants are encouraged to take time to develop a well-written statement that describes how previous education and experience has prepared you for doctoral studies, what you hope to achieve by pursuing a doctoral degree, and the personal strengths that will help you succeed in a doctoral program.
    • In 1,000-1,500 words, please answer the following questions:
      • How has your previous education and/or work experience prepared you for doctoral studies at Liberty University?
      • What is your goal with regard to pursuing doctoral education at Liberty University?
      • Please describe the character and values you possess that will help you succeed in your desired field.
  5. Applicants whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or an approved alternate test of English proficiency: International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or the International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP). Applicants must earn a score of 80 on the Internet-based TOEFL, a 3.9 on the iTEP, a 6.5 on the IELTS, or an equivalent score on an approved alternate test for all graduate degree programs.  Applicants who have an earned degree from a college or university in the U.S. or other English-speaking country or school may have the TOEFL requirement waived by the Office of Graduate Admissions. Alternatively, applicants who successfully complete the levels of English-Second-Language (ESL) instruction indicated below at one of two schools will have the TOEFL requirement waived.  Students will have their application held until transcripts from one of the below schools are received.

The Office of Graduate Admissions may request additional documentation when conducting admission reviews to evaluate a candidate’s record before a final admission decision can be made.

Please note: Guidelines are subject to change in federal or state regulations for the licensure of school personnel.


Preliminary Acceptance

If you are sending in a preliminary transcript for acceptance, you must:
  • Be in your final semester and
    • lack six hours or less for master's degrees that require 30-48 credit hours.
    • lack nine hours or less for master's degrees that require 49 or more credit hours.
  • Submit a final official transcript with degree conferral prior to registering for your second semester with Liberty Univeristy.

Official College Transcript Policy

An acceptable official college transcript must be issued directly from the institution in a sealed envelope with a signature across the back. If you have one in your possession, it must meet the same requirements.
