Rationale
An important part of a PhD degree is the completion of a dissertation. Under the direction of a mentor, the PhD candidate completes a dissertation manuscript, dissertation defense, and final document submission.

Dissertation Submission: Proposal/Current Status Assignment
The student will submit his or her proposal or, if his or her proposal has already been approved by his or her committee, the most recent version of his or her dissertation. The student’s document will be reviewed by his or her dissertation mentor.
Dissertation Submission: Progress Check Assignments (8)
As the student moves through the process of preparing his or her dissertation, he or she will submit drafts to his or her committee for review. The feedback the student receives on these drafts will guide him or her as he or she moves forward.

The School of Music Dissertation Handbook is a resource designed to provide students with vital degree completion information, as well as directions for navigating and completing various stages in the student’s program.
