After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
The student will submit a proposal or, if the proposal has already been approved by the committee, the most recent version of the dissertation. The document will be reviewed by the dissertation mentor. The student will ensure that the document meets the requirements of the School of Music Dissertation Handbook as well as the requirements of Turabian style. These submissions are for the mentor to assess progress; if the manuscript is ready for a review by the mentor between required submissions, the student should email the professor requesting a review of the manuscript.
The student will submit the most recent version of the dissertation. The dissertation will be reviewed by the dissertation mentor for improvement over previous drafts. The document must show substantive improvement over each previous draft in relation to quality and quantity. Substantive improvement is defined as either quantitative improvement (word count, sources, etc.) or qualitative improvement (editing, revising, synthesizing, etc.).
The student will complete a quiz acknowledging the reading of the Dissertation Handbook. The quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 1 yes/no question, and have no time limit.
