THEO 330 Theology of the Family
Course Description
This course is designed to equip students with an understanding of God’s original design for the home, the primary purposes of family life, and a biblical method for facilitating transformation. Students will establish the ground work for fostering healthy family relationships and strong generational legacy. This study begins with a “big picture” view of the home, clarifies doctrinal misunderstandings of the family role, outlines a history of the modern family, and offers a scriptural vision for long-term family blessing.

Rationale
The life of every person has been, and will be, largely shaped and defined by his or her home life; however, there are very few courses that apply an understanding of biblical and theological foundations to the family structure.

Discussions (3)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 3 Discussions designed to facilitate substantive interaction on some of the topics covered throughout the course. The student will post an original thread of 300-500 words in response to the prompt provided. After posting the original thread, the student is asked to post 200-300 word replies to 2 peers’ posts. The student must interact with all assigned materials and document all sources in current Turabian format. Integration of at least 1 biblical principle is required (CLO: A, B, C, D).
Journal Article Review Assignment
The student will write a 2-page review of a scholarly journal article related to his/her proposed research topic for the Research Paper. For the article review, the student will be required to provide a brief summary of the article and a brief analysis of how this article fits within the scope of his/her proposed research topic meeting. (CLO: B, D)
Research Paper Assignment
The final research paper will focus on a topic or issue discussed during the course. The paper will be 7-8 pages in length, not including the title page, outline, or bibliography. The paper must cite 8 current, scholarly sources, 3 of which must be journal articles. (CLO: A, B, C, D)
Quizzes (3)
The student will complete three quizzes over the course content material. Each quiz will contain 3-6 questions, including short answer, essay, and/or multiple choice questions. Quizzes will allow 1-2 attempts and will have a time limit of 1 hour to 1 hour and 30 minutes. (CLO: A, C, D)
