Rationale
This course provides a presentation, analysis, and implementation of the current methods, activities, and materials for teaching and assessing language in the four skill areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as culture, to speakers of other languages. The content will include a brief review of language learning theory, state and federal language policies/standards, development and use of language resources and technology, presentation of professional resources/organizations, and assessment issues and practices.

Discussions (2)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the discussions correspond to textbook reading and presentation segments. In preparation for each discussion, the student must read the assigned textbook readings. Then he/she will write a post that addresses all the discussion questions. The discussion may include personal experience(s), but all discussion must attempt to connect the content being presented in the textbook readings and presentations. Thoughtful and helpful discussion is expected. Each discussion will consist of a thread of 500 words and at least 2 replies of 250 words each.
Lesson Plan Assignment
The student will develop a set of three lesson plans according to his/her content area demonstrating a variety of student learning activities and teaching strategies appropriate for second language acquisition including technology integration and appropriate types of assessments.
Mock Lesson Presentation and Critique Assignment
The student will develop and present a mock lesson in which he/she is responsible for demonstration of planning and implementation of various strategies covered in the course. Discussion of the presentation will also take place via self-critique.
Methods Presentation Assignment
The student will compare and contrast two methods in a presentation/lesson of second language acquisition teaching.
Methods/Approaches Notes Assignments (3)
The student will keep a notebook with a provided template analyzing the various methods/approaches of second language acquisition teaching presented in class.
Christian Worldview Book Study Assignments (3)
The student will demonstrate understanding on the integration of a Christian Worldview in the second language classroom via reflection and analysis of assigned chapters.
Thematic Unit Assignment
The student will create a cumulative thematic unit demonstrating the various concepts learned and studied throughout the semester.
Quiz: Lesson Plan
This Quiz covers the PPT presentation reviewing the process of SLA as well as the assigned chapter readings for the week.
