The purpose of Digital Storytelling is to reaffirm for the strategic communicator the use of essential narrative technique, the vital importance of the correct format for video scripts, and the creative use of the unique tools of the digital creator–especially videography and editing–in crafting the effective message.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread of at least 400 words in response to the provided prompt for each forum. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads in at least 200 words. Each thread and reply must demonstrate course-related knowledge through at least 2 scholarly citations per thread and at least 1 scholarly citation per reply.

The student will write a sample page of the split-column format for screenwriting. The submission should be no more than 2 pages.

Split-Column Script: Scene Description Assignment

The student will write a short script in the split-column format, focusing on best practice in the scene description for setting, action and character. The submission should be no more than 5 pages.

Split-Column Script: Shot and Lighting Sequences Assignment

The student will write a short script in the split-column format, focusing on the use of explicit shot direction for camera and lighting. The submission should be no more than 5 pages.

Split-Column Script: Editing Sequences Assignment

The student will write a short script in the split-column format, focusing on the use of explicit editing direction. The submission should be no more than 5 pages.

Split-Column Script: Audio Sequences Assignment

The student will write a short script in the split-column format, focusing on the use of explicit music and sound effects direction. The submission should be no more than 5 pages.

Split-Column Script: Culminating Cumulative Assignment

The student will write a complete script in the professional split-column format, applying all of the techniques learned in the term. The submission should be no more than 5 pages.

Quiz: Comprehensive Evaluation

The Quiz: Comprehensive Evaluation will encompass the Learn material covered throughout this course. The exam will be open-book/open notes, include multiple-choice questions, be limited to one hour, and allow one attempt.
