Course Description

This course connects students to organizational growth objectives with social media strategy, platforms, and tactics. Extensive focus is given to interactive sessions and team problem-solving exercises.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to the practices used in implementing social media for the purposes of organizational growth. In doing so, the student will gain understanding of the objectives, strategies, platforms, and tactics used in social media.

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist located in the Course Overview.

The student will submit a short post describing his/her experience with social media marketing, as well as other items about himself/herself that will help his/her peers get to know the student.

Discussions (3)

For each discussion, the student is required to reply to at least 2 classmates’ posted assignments in the following week. Each reply must be between 150–200 words. The student is expected to support his/her opinions and comments with outside sources, and provide at least 1 citation per reply. All posts must adhere to current APA format.

Research Assignments (3)

The student will complete 3 reports (Client Research, Consumer Research and Social Media Research) for his/her selected Client. These reports will serve as assignments and discussion posts for three weeks.

Client Research Report Assignment

The student will write a 2–5-page paper in current APA format that focuses on research of his/her chosen client. The paper must include at least 1 reference in addition to the course textbooks. The title and reference pages do not count toward the page requirement.

Consumer Research Report Assignment

The student will write a 2–5-page paper in current APA format that focuses on research of potential consumers for his/her chosen client. The paper must include at least 1 reference in addition to the course textbooks. The title and reference pages do not count toward the page requirement.

Social Media Research Report Assignment

The student will write a 2–5-page paper in current APA format that focuses on research of different social media outlets and platforms. The paper must include at least 1 reference in addition to the course textbooks. The title and reference pages do not count toward the page requirement.

Client Selection Assignment

The student will select 1 client company from the provided list. The student will post his/her choice to the proper Discussion thread for his/her classmates to see. The student will then submit a minimum of one paragraph, explaining why they chose this client. The student must choose a topic that has not already been claimed by a classmate. The company chosen will be used as the foundation for the rest of the assignments in the course.

Social Media Strategy Sheet Assignment

The student will complete a 3–15-page strategy sheet that reveals data and trends to his/her chosen client. This assignment must include at least 1 reference in addition to the course textbooks. The title and reference pages do not count toward the page requirement. Current APA format must be used.

Strategic Social Media Marketing Pitch Assignment

This assignment will contain 2 parts. In the first, the student will complete a visually appealing Pitch Deck. This will show an analysis of the topics and how they apply to the student’s chosen company. For the second part, the student will complete a 5–10-minute Video Pitch where he/she will pitch his/her marketing strategy for the client. At least 1 reference must be cited in current APA format in the Pitch Deck.

Quizzes (4)

All quizzes will cover the Learn material for assigned Module(s): Week(s). The quizzes will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 2-hour time limit.
