Advanced Clinical Social Work Practice provides the opportunity for students to develop clinical skills in working with individuals, families, and groups struggling with mental health and/or substance abuse issues.

Rationale
Clinical social workers provide mental health therapy to a variety of clients. Advanced Clinical Social Work Practice introduces the student to a number of therapeutic approaches to aid in their development of clinical skills.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will engage in 4 course discussions regarding relevant course content. The student will post 1 thread of al least 350-words, then post 2 replies of at least 250-words each. Video Discussion
Video discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will engage in 1 video discussion regarding relevant course content. The video discussion will allow the student to see other styles of practice and learn from his/her classmates. The student will post 1 video thread of at least 5 minutes. The student will also reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each written reply must be at least 200 words. Triad Assignments (3)
The student will participate in 3 Triad Assignments throughout the term. For each assignment, the student and his/her group will record 3 interviews of 10-15-minutes each with each group member acting as a practice worker, a practice client, and an observer of 1 of the simulations. These assignments give the student an opportunity to practice his/her clinical skills. The student will then complete the require Triad Reflection Form reflecting on their experience. The Triad Reflection Form will consist of 4 parts: a 200-300-word review on the group member who played their social worker, a 200-300-word reaction to their experience as the social worker, a 100-150-word reaction to being the client, and an integration of the text and presentation which should include at least 2 sources from the course materials. Understanding Problems and Rating Moods Assignment
Understanding the relationship between the environment, thoughts, behavior, physiology and moods is the first step in cognitive restructuring. The student will complete 2 worksheets to further understand the concepts. Thought Record Assignment
Thought records are a foundational step to cognitive restructuring for the cognitive behavioral therapist. Therefore, the student will analyze 1 thought utilizing a thought record worksheet. (CLO: A, D, F, G, H, I; Competencies: 1, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9: Dimensions: Knowledge, Values, Skills, Cognitive & Affective Processes)
Quizzes (5)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module: week. Each quiz will be open book/open notes, contain 4 short answer questions, and have no time limit, except the last quiz which will have 3 short answer questions. (CLOs: A, B, F, G, H, I; Competencies 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 Knowledge)
