Course Description
The Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) requires that all social work programs have a gatekeeping process to ensure that students have a thorough understanding of the profession of social work and will be a good fit for the program and profession. The BSSW program at Liberty University includes 4 gates. All students must apply for and be approved through all 4 gates to be eligible to graduate from the BSSW program. This SOWK 294 course includes the application process for Gate 1 of the BSSW program. This course is 0 credits and is Pass/Fail. Approval through Gate 1 indicates official acceptance into the BSSW program to pursue.

Primary Degree Completion Plan Audit Assignment
The student will submit a PDF of their Degree Completion Plan Audit (DCPA) from the Course Registration Tool to ensure the student meets the eligibility requirements for the course. The DCPA must reflect successful completion (C or higher) or current enrollment for each of the appropriate Gate prerequisite courses, or the student will have to re-enroll for the course in a later semester.
Order Confirmation for Background Check and Fingerprints Assignment
The student must purchase a Background Check and Fingerprints from the LUO Bookstore. As part of this assignment, the student will submit a copy of the Order Confirmation page as a PDF or screenshot, reflecting purchase of the needed checks. All results documents submitted for Gate 1 must be marked with a completion date that falls within 1 calendar year of the deadline for submission. Disclosure Statement Form Assignment
The student must fill out and sign the Disclosure Statement Form Template to acknowledge and verify charges, convictions, citations, etc., on the student’s results documents and to grant permission to the field education staff of the Department of Social Work to release information from this form for the purpose of arranging field placements.
Gate 1 Application Assignment
The Gate 1 Application is a document completed by the student to demonstrate their eligibility for Gate 1 consideration. The student will acknowledge the eligibility requirements and answer prescribed prompts provided by the SOWK program. The provided template must be used, and the student must submit the assignment on time for Gate 1 consideration.
The student will submit their Background Check results document when it is posted to the student’s Complio account.
The student will submit their Fingerprints results document when it is posted to the student’s Complio account. Results will only be available for 30 days, and the student must download their results within that 30-day window.
The student will submit a PDF of their Degree Completion Plan Audit (DCPA) from the Course Registration Tool to ensure the student meets the eligibility requirements for the course, having successfully completed any necessary prerequisites B-term and remained enrolled in any necessary prerequisites D-term. The DCPA must reflect successful completion (C or higher) or current enrollment for each of the appropriate Gate prerequisite courses, or the student will have to re-enroll for the course in a later semester.
CORE Order Confirmation Assignment
The student will submit a PDF proof of purchase for the CORE license from the LUO Bookstore.
The student will submit a template that organizes their plan for accommodating Junior Field Experiences and Senior Field Experiences as part of the BSSW program. The student will use this opportunity to brainstorm options for field experience. The student must fill out all information as requested by the prompts in the template document with thorough detail. The student will be graded for completion and not for approval of any proposals suggested in its completion.
Course Sequence Plan Assignment
The student will use resources provided to develop a Course Sequence Plan to arrange a schedule for completing their remaining courses. To complete the Course Sequence Plan, the student will include course numbers, course titles, the number of credits each class is worth, and terms in which the student plans on completing each class.
Gate 1 Decision Assignment
This assignment will be completed by the Department of Social Work. The student’s Gate 1 Decision will be emailed to them and posted within the gradebook. Approval (both full and provisional) will result in full awardance of points and completion of the Gate.
Quizzes (17)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. Each quiz will contain 1–10 true/false, multiple-choice, or essay questions and have no time limit.
