SMGT 330 Sport Communication Technology
Course Description
This course provides future sport professionals with the technology expertise needed to be successful and marketable in sport public relations. Students will develop proficiency in sport industry relevant technologies such as organizational media production programs, persuasive media platforms, and social media.

Rationale
Technology plays a major role in the sport industry and comes in a variety of formats, especially in sport communications. Marketing, organizational communication, media relations, community relations and production media all extensively use technology platforms to create, change, and reinforce attitudes, knowledge, and behaviors among key publics. To be effective public relations and sport information managers, students must develop competences related to the most prevalent technologies being utilized by practitioners in the field.

Given that the current state of sport communications is heavily invested in social media, students will complete two different blog assignments. These assignments will not only help students develop a familiarity with blogging trends but will also work to cover specific material within the two posts, including covering an off-campus sporting event. Podcast Assignment
Podcasting is one of the fastest growing communication mediums. As a growing medium, it is important for students to be familiar with how podcasting works and be able to create one of their own. Students must create their own podcast and listen to three other podcasts. (CLOs: A, B, C, D)
Organizational Media Assignment
Throughout the course of the semester, students will be learning a variety of technologies related to sport communication. Students must pick technology learned in class and create a piece of organizational media for a sport organization of their choice. Professor approval is required when choosing which form of organizational media will be produced. (CLOs: A, B, C, D)
Website Evaluation Assignment
The student will select a sport organization’s website and complete a thorough evaluation of the website including content and design. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
Webpage Design Assignment
The student will mockup a design for one webpage for a sport organization of their choice. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
Infographic Assignment
The student will create an infographic for a sport organization of their choice. (CLOs: A, B, C, D)
Quiz
The quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Weeks. The test will contain multiple-choice, true/false, and essay questions, and have a 40-minute time limit. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
