PLST 215 Data Management and E-Discovery

This course provides an overview of data management under the rules and guidelines governing electronic discovery. Students will be taught about the logistical issues associated with the management and production of voluminous electronic discovery. The course will also address evidentiary and procedural issues that arise within e-discovery while also considering Christian worldview implications.

As our society’s dependence on electronic communication increases, legal methods for documenting this communication increases as well. This course is designed to assist students in becoming proficient in the management of electronic data within a legal context. Students will also study the ethical issues associated with this cutting edge landscape, and develop a biblical worldview through which to evaluate them.

Discussions (2)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be at least 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words. Each thread must be supported by at least 3 scholarly citations in Bluebook format and each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in Bluebook format.

Short Paper Assignment

The student will write a 2-page research-based paper in current Bluebook format that focuses on eDiscovery defensibility and privacy issues. The paper must include at least 2 references in addition to the course textbook and the Bible.

Article Review Assignments (2)

The student will write a brief paper discussing current news articles related to a trial or other actions that directly relate to the subject matter of data management and e-discovery. News articles used for this assignment must come from the newspaper, a news program, or some other reputable news source. Each paper must be no less than a full page and no more than 2 full pages double-spaced, 12-point font, with 1-inch margins.

Quizzes (3)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned modules: weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 10 true/false questions and 2 essay questions, and have a 2 hour time limit.
