Course Description

An examination of the content, comprehensiveness, and validity of several counseling theories that have been developed by prominent Christian counselors.

Rationale

Counselors may find assistance with the development of higher levels of competency when they understand the content of and identify the strengths and weaknesses of several well-known approaches to counseling proposed by Christian authors and practitioners.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each discussion thread must be between 400 - 600 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the discussion thread, the student is required to reply to at least 2 other classmates’ discussions. Each reply must be between 200 - 400 words. (CLOs A, B, C, E, F, G, H)

Comparison Paper Assignments (3)

The student will write 3 comparison papers throughout the progression of this course. Each paper must be 6–8 pages (exclusive of the title page and reference page) and be in current APA or Turabian format. The paper may include other references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLOs A, B, E, F, G, H)

Personal Theory Paper Assignments (3)

The Personal Theory Paper Assignment will be submitted in 3 parts:

Personal Theory Paper: Reference Page Assignment
In preparation for the submission of the Personal Theory Paper Assignment, the student will submit a reference page including at least 6 resources in the correct format. (CLOs A, B, C, E, F, G, H)

Personal Theory Paper: Outline Assignment
In preparation for the submission of the Personal Theory Paper Assignment, the student will submit a working outline of his/her personal theory paper. (CLOs A, B, C, E, F, G, H)

Personal Theory Paper Assignment
The student will write an 8 -10 page (exclusive of the title page and reference page) Personal Theory Paper in current APA or Turabian format that will focus on the theories of the required authors, as well as the creation of the student’s own personal theory. The paper must include at least 8 references (the student must use 3 of the course textbooks and may use the articles and media presentations, or other sources) and the Bible.
