After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be 400-600 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. Each initial thread must be supported by multiple scholarly sources in Turabian format. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 200-300 words and include scholarly source(s) in Turabian format. Acceptable sources include course textbooks, the Bible, course materials and presentations, etc. Any sources used outside of the course textbooks, the Bible, and course material/presentations must have been published within the last five years. (CLO: A, C, D)

The candidate will complete training modules via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative Program. Upon completion of all modules, the candidate will receive a certification to upload to Canvas for a grade. The IRB (Institutional Review Board) will automatically be notified once the student completes the training. (CLO: F)

The dissertation proposal comprises three chapters: introduction, literature review, and methodology. These three chapters will ultimately be included in the dissertation following revisions among the students and committee members. In this course, the candidate will be completing a viable quantitative chapter one and three focusing on aligning the problem statement, purpose statement, significance statement, research questions, hypotheses, and methodology.

For each of the following writing assignments, the candidate should cite all sources in Turabian style and include a bibliography (a bibliography is only required for the Participants and Setting, Procedures, and Data Analysis sections of Chapter 3 if the candidate uses sources). Any front and/or back matter required for an assignment does not count towards the required page count. Academic writing is expected including, but not limited to, grammar, syntax, and word choice as well as Turabian formatting.

Quantitative Research Plan: Chapter One Assignment

The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the first chapter of his/her research plan, including all front matter found in the template through the School of Music Handbook website link provided as an assignment resource in Canvas (the candidate only needs to include the list of tables, list of figures, and abbreviations sections of the front matter if he/she has included them within his current draft). The final product must include background research on the topic related to historical, sociological, and theoretical foundations (7-10 pages); problem statement (1 page); purpose statement (1 page); significance (1 page); research questions and sub questions (1/4 page), and pertinent definitions with peer-reviewed resources cited (as needed) for a total of 10-13 pages excluding the table of contents, other front matter, and bibliography. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for this Chapter One as discussed within the relevant sections of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: A, B)

Quantitative Research Plan: Research Design Assignment

The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the quantitative research design best suited for his or her research study. The draft will include the identified research design; rationale for the design; research supporting selection of the design; variables central to the study; and peer-reviewed definitions of the variables for a minimum total of 2 pages. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for this section as discussed within the relevant section of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: C, E)

Quantitative Research Plan: Participants and Setting Assignment

The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the participants and setting section of his or her research study. The draft will include a clearly-defined population with pseudonyms; a robust description of the setting; a discussion of the sampling procedure; the statistically-defined parameters for the sample size; a detailed accounting of the sample demographics; clearly identified groups (as needed); process for the groups’ formations; and a detailed accounting of the groups’ demographics for a minimum total of 2 pages. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for this section as discussed within the relevant section of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: E)

Quantitative Research Plan: Instrumentation Assignment

The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the instrumentation or intervention section of his or her research study. The draft will include a clearly identified instrument(s) for administration or intervention(s) for implementation; the instrument’s purpose; a short history of the instrument or intervention development and origin; a statement of other peer-reviewed studies where the instrument was administered or intervention was implemented; the construct validity of the instrument with pertinent statistical data presented in a table format; reliability statistics with pertinent statistical data presented in a table format; the number of questions or steps in the intervention; scales of measurement; scoring procedures; a brief overview of instrument administration or intervention implementation; the approximate time required for administration of the instrument or implementation of the intervention; the individual responsible and the process required for scoring the instrument or evaluating the intervention; and permission to administer the instrument or implement the intervention for a minimum total of 3 pages. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for this section as discussed within the relevant section of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: E)

Quantitative Research Plan: Procedures Assignment

The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the procedures section of his or her research study. The draft will include a statement of IRB approval; the process required for eliciting participants including informed consent or child assent; a statement pertaining to conducting a pilot study (if appropriate); process for training individuals necessary for administering procedures; a chronological, narrative, step-by-step, detailed accounting of the procedures; an accounting of how data were collected. The procedures must be sufficiently detailed in order to replicate. This section should be a minimum total of 2 pages. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for this section as discussed within the relevant section of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: E)

Quantitative Research Plan: Data Analysis Assignment

The candidate will submit a well-developed draft of the data analysis section of his or her research study. The draft will include the pertinent statistical analysis technique; the research-based rationale for the technique selection; data screening processes; method for testing assumptions related to the technique; identified alpha (use Greek letter) established for the technique; and the effect size and convention necessary (use Greek letters where appropriate) arranged according to null hypotheses for a minimum total of 2 pages. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for this section as discussed within the relevant section of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: D, E)

Quantitative Research Plan: Proposal Excerpt Assignment

The candidate will combine all sections and submit a well-developed draft of chapters one and three. The candidate should be sure to precede the final draft with the front matter needed as the template indicated in the Chapter One draft assignment earlier in this course (this does not count towards the required page count). The Chapter One draft will include background, problem statement, purpose statement, significance statement, research questions, and pertinent definitions. The chapter three draft will include research design, restatement of the research question(s), null hypothesis(es), participants and setting, instrumentation, procedures, and data analysis. The final draft will sufficiently incorporate all instructor edits and comments and should be between 15 and 20 pages. The candidate’s work should follow the guidelines for Chapters One and Three as discussed within the relevant sections of the Claxton and Barthlow course textbook. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E)
