CG • Section 8WK • 07/01/2018 to 12/31/2199 • Modified 05/22/2023

Course Description

This course introduces the fundamental principles of physiological functions, the coordination of physiological processes responsible for the maintenance of a stable internal environment and evaluating the roles of different organ systems in maintaining homeostasis. This course will employ the review of disease conditions to highlight the significance of homeostasis.

For information regarding prerequisites for this course, please refer to the Academic Course Catalog.

Rationale

A proper grasp of human physiology is integral to learning and practicing medicine. This course is designed to equip students with the analytical skills first to recognize problems and apply rational concepts in solving those problems. This is what the physician does all day. This course is designed to introduce students to the systemic functions of the body and the means the body uses to maintain homeostasis. This course attempts to explore and unravel the intricate complexities of the human body (which is God’s masterful creation), as our act of worship to the Almighty God.

Each thread must include at least 2 scholarly citations and each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in current AMA format.

Research Paper Assignments (2)

The student will write two research-based papers on provided course-related topics.

Research Paper: Disease Physiology/Pathophysiology

This paper will review the pathophysiology of the disease assigned by the instructor. The paper must be at least 5 pages and include a minimum of 10 references in AMA format.

Research Paper: Disease Pharmacology

This paper should review current research on at least 5 pharmacological management options for the disease from the previous research paper. The paper must be at least 3 pages and include a minimum of 5 unique references that are recent and are cited in AMA format.

Quizzes (8)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the Module: Week in which the quiz is due.
