Rationale
Supervised clinical experience is essential for the student to develop competency in MFT practice. This first practicum provides structured opportunities to apply systemic therapy techniques in real-world settings. Emphasis on ethics, supervision, and faith integration ensures the student develops the skills required for effective and responsible clinical practice.

Course Requirements Checklist
After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.
Each student will complete at least two recorded counseling sessions with case conceptualization papers and verbatim transcriptions. The first presentation and verbatim will focus on basic counseling skills. The second presentation and verbatim will include a treatment plan, an ethics section, and a multi-cultural section. See the appendix in Canvas for detailed instructions.
Note: Each case presentation must be a unique case, meaning that the student may not present a case he/she has already presented.
The student will complete a final self-reflection assignment. Current APA format must be utlilized.
The final self-reflection is intended to engage the student in the process of reflective learning while demonstrating self-awareness, self-evaluation, and the ability to develop a specific action plan that will aid them in improving his/her counseling skills. A minimum of 5 appropriate sources with citations and a reference page must be included. The required length of the final self-reflection is 5 pages. (CLO: A, B)

The student will read the Marriage and Family Therapy Practicum Manual and then complete this quiz. The student must pass this quiz in order to proceed with other course assignments.

The quiz will cover the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics (2014). The student will have 45 minutes to choose the correct answer for 20 multiple-choice and true/false questions. The student is allowed up to 3 timed attempts on the quiz. (CLO: G)
Quiz: Liability Insurance Verification (2)
The student must submit a copy of liability insurance at two separate points during the semester to prove that he/she has maintained liability insurance throughout the Practicum. No student may begin or remain in practicum without appropriate liability insurance. (CLO: G)

Quiz: Jungers & Scott (4)
The quizzes will cover chapters 1-4 of Jungers & Scott, et al. textbook. The student will have 30 minutes to choose the correct answer for 5 multiple-choice questions.

The student will complete this quiz by confirming that he/she has had his/her client fill out the HIPAA Privacy Authorization form, provided a copy to his/her client, and retained a copy for himself/herself that has been stored in a secure location at his/her practicum site. The student will also submit the Video Informed Consent Confirmation form but not the HIPAA Privacy Authorization form. The student will complete this assignment twice in the assigned Modules: Weeks.
The student’s site supervisor(s) will complete a midterm evaluation and final evaluation. The student will download the evaluation forms located with the assignment instructions. The student must give the forms to their supervisor(s) to complete. Once the supervisor has completed the evaluations, the student must scan and submit the evaluations in Canvas. If the student does not receive passing evaluations during the course, he/she will work with the supervisor and Liberty University practicum faculty to develop a plan to correct any deficits. Supervised Clinical Training
The student must complete 100 total hours of supervised clinical training experience, with a minimum of 40 hours spent in providing services to actual clients (face-to-face client contact). Direct client services include: doing individual, couple, and family counseling, group counseling, co-therapy, co-leading groups, and conducting intakes. The remaining 60 hours are dedicated to supervision and related activities. Supervision (S) includes 1 hour per week of individual and/or triadic supervision. Related Activities (RA) include observation of counseling and other counseling-related activities, staff meetings, counseling-related administrative work, writing progress notes, filing counseling-related files/documents, billing insurance companies, and telephone calls to clients. If the student fails to earn the required 100 hours, then he/she will not receive a passing grade and will be required to re-take the course. Review the Practicum Fieldwork Manual for additional requirements.

The student will rate him/herself on the nine dispositions required for this program. The quiz will contain 9 multiple-choice questions and 1 essay question and is limited to 1 hour. The student is allowed 1 attempt to complete the quiz.
