Course Description

This course examines environmental hygiene and health problems related to water supply and sanitation. Low cost methods as well as appropriate technology applied to sanitation are discussed.

Rationale

A hygiene environment is essential for healthy living. Proper sanitation and safe water are essential for an environment, especially in lesser economically developed countries. This course will give the student the basic knowledge and tools to address these fundamental water and sanitation issues for global settings.

Discussions (3)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. The student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion and reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each thread must be at least 400 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include at least 1 scholarly source. Each reply must be at least 200 words. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Article Review Assignments (2)

The student will review the major points of an article. This is an individual assignment involving the review of the major points of a case study or article. The student is expected to provide suggestions to address the problem in the case study or article. (CLOs: B, C, D)

Short Essay Assignments (2)

The student is required to respond to a topic provided by the course instructor. The essay should be 200–250 words in current AMA format. (CLOs: A, B, C)

Research Paper Assignments (4)

Topic Submission

The student will select a specific topic of the Research Paper. The topic selection will be submitted to the instructor for approval.

Outline

The student will create a detailed outline for the Final Submission of the Research Paper.

References

The student will research at least 10 scholarly resources that are no more than 5 years old. The student will cite the resources in current AMA format.

Final Submission

The student will write a 10–12-page research-based paper (excluding the reference and cover page) in current AMA format that focuses on an approved topic. The paper must include at least 10 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)

Quiz: Midterm

This quiz covers information from Module 1: Week 1 – Module 4: Week 4. It will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 2-hour time limit. (CLOs: B, C, E)

Quiz: Final

This quiz covers information from Module 5: Week 5 – Module 8: Week 8. It will be open-book/open-notes, contain 50 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 2-hour time limit. (CLOs: B, C, E)
