Rationale
Students will learn advanced and effective approaches to asymmetrical and irregular warfare. Strategic, operational, and tactical considerations of asymmetrical warfare will be central to the course as students develop an understanding of critical objectives, the human rationale for war, effective strategic operations and procedures, the implications of asymmetrical war, and countries and organizations operational environments.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 5 discussions in this course. A major objective in these discussions is to demonstrate specific research design by selecting, evaluating, and applying high-quality sources accurately cited. The student will apply the quality research standards explained in the course to create well-researched and analytic assessments that meet graduate school competencies.
In this course, the student will have the opportunity to learn about the multifaceted phenomenon of symmetrical and asymmetrical warfare. For this assignment, the student will write a detailed research paper between 2-5 pages answering the following question: Which terrorist organization in which country would you like to be an expert on in warfare tactics and why? The student is expected to provide specific examples related to the text and other scholarly sources supporting their reasoning.
Students will build upon the information presented in their readings and create a PowerPoint presentation answering the following question: Which country presents the highest threat(s) to the U.S. in respect to symmetrical and asymmetrical warfare? Students are welcome to choose any country as long as the choice is justifiable.
Students will use the information learned from their assigned Learn items to craft a research paper. Students will answer three specific questions in this paper regarding the most dangerous types of warfare, the most threatening war tactics, and the country or organization that poses the greatest threat to the United States.
