HIST 689 Thesis Proposal and Research

This course will allow a student to work individually with the director of his/her thesis.

The purpose of this course is to allow the student who is completing a thesis to continue researching, outlining, and writing under the supervision and direction of his/her thesis director.

Research Design Resubmission

At the end of the first module/week of this course, the student must resubmit both the Research Design of his/her thesis, both of which were originally submitted for HIST 601. The document must be considerably revised and improved, applying the thesis director’s feedback on the student’s previous submission.

Research Journals (2)

Throughout the course, the student must submit 2 Research Journals. These journals must provide the instructor with a brief update on what progress the student has made on his/her thesis research and how the project has progressed since the previous module/week. Each journal submission must be at least 200 words.

Preliminary Outlines (3)

The student will submit preliminary outlines for each remaining chapter of his/her thesis, detailing the overall structure of all thesis chapters. These Preliminary Outlines will prepare the student to submit Chapter 2 by the end of this course and the remaining thesis chapters in HIST 690. Outlines for all remaining chapters must be submitted by the end of this course.

Thesis Chapter 2 Drafts (2)

Throughout each thesis-related course, the student will continue to draft each chapter of his/her thesis. Building on the submission of Chapter 1 in HIST 601, the student must submit Chapter 2 by the end of HIST 689, preparing him/her to complete the rest of his/her thesis in HIST 690. The student will be required to submit both a Rough Draft and an improved Final Draft, based on the feedback of his/her thesis director.
