Rationale
Human flourishing is a key objective of any Christian view of society. An important part, though not the only part, of human flourishing involves economic activity. Because human beings bear the image of God, it is natural for them to spend time and resources freely pursuing various callings and using various gifts in market exchanges. Yet, a legal and cultural framework can serve to enhance or diminish the capacity of market exchanges to contribute to human flourishing. Students of government need to know both the benefits and limitations of market economies so that they can better assess public policy aimed at improving society.
