Rationale
Why is national security important? What are the rights, powers, limits, and obligations of the federal government in assuring national security? This course prepares the student for a successful career in law, defense, or national security by examining these and other critical questions relevant to national security. With a focus on constitutional and statutory law, as well as policy, the student gains a foundational understanding of the structural and applied aspects of national security and why it functions as it does in the modern context.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each original thread must be 450–500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge with at least 3 scholarly citations and 2 Scripture references per original post. In addition to the original post, the student will reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates. Each reply must be 250 words and must contain 2 scholarly sources and 2 Scripture references between the two reply posts. Demonstration of mastery of the assigned material is demonstrated with citations and references from each/all of the Module: Week’s assigned materials and an additional 3 citations from external sources, across the 3 posts. Reply posts will be in response to the posts of two classmates.
Research Paper
The student will submit a 2-page (500 word) “concept paper” where he/she will identify and explain details and sources pertaining to his/her approved topic. The student should include 10 scholarly sources less than five years old in current APA format.
The student will write a 5-7 page research-based paper in current APA format on a topic related to national security law and policy. The paper must include at least eight citations in addition to the course textbook and the Bible.
Research Paper
The student will submit an annotated bibliography of 10 scholarly and trustworthy sources related to the research topic in current APA format.
The student will write a 3-5 page research-based paper, in current APA format, that focuses on topics that are relevant to the course content. Each essay must include 5–7 citations in addition to the course textbook/materials and the Bible.
The student will write a 5-7 page paper in current APA format that focuses on a topic of the student’s choice related to national security law and policy. The topic must be pre-approved by the instructor. The paper must include at least 10 scholarly references in addition to the course textbook and the Bible.

Each module the student will have a quiz based on the text’s content. The student may refer to his/her notes and textbooks at any time during the assessment. The student will have 15 minutes to choose the correct answers to 10 questions.
