Course Description

Diverse introduction to political and economic ideas, government institutions, free market processes, public issues, economic policy and political and economic activity, emphasizing the close relationship between a system of limited constitutional government and the free enterprise economy and providing an overview of the Christian worldview with regard to government and economics.

Rationale

Government and Business majors, as well as others, need a philosophical foundation for the general concept of limited government and free enterprise economics. This course provides a foundation for the student to understand that limited government and free workers are successful. From an ethical point of view, limited government and free workers are superior to other processes; historically, they are the property of western Christian civilization.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must be at least 250 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to at least 1 other classmate's threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words.

Comparison Paper Assignment

The student will write a 2–3-page paper comparing and contrasting the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution as well as researching Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist and its importance in today’s society. Once the student has read these founding documents and Jefferson's Letter to the Danbury Baptists, answer the question, "What do you think the signers of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution thought about the separation of Church and State or about the separation of God from government?" [Note: these are not the same thing.] The student must incorporate a biblical worldview in the paper and the concepts from the readings in the Martin textbook. The student should use the Course Style Guidelines document for the correct formatting.

Draft Submission Assignment

The Draft Submission Assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool. This assignment will allow the student to submit a draft of the final submission and make any necessary edits prior to submitting the final assignment.

Worldview Analysis Assignment

The student will write a 2–3-page paper in current APA format analyzing the impact of process philosophy on government policy and/or society. The student must include at least 2 references which may include the textbook, scholarly resources, and provided readings. The student should adhere to the format specified in the Course Style Guidelines document.

Draft Submission Assignment

The Draft Submission Assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool. This assignment will allow the student to submit a draft of the final submission and make any necessary edits prior to submitting the final assignment.

Washington Farewell Address Assignment

The student will write a 2-3-page analysis of the major points of George Washington’s “Farewell Address.” If sources are used, they must be properly cited. The student must adhere to the format specified in the Course Style Guidelines document.
