Rationale
This course will provide students with an understanding of the importance of environmental factors in both work and exercise physiology. Knowledge of physiological response to varied environments is essential in mitigation of risk. Focus will be on using physiological knowledge and research to prevent and prepare for work in extreme environments. Students will understand how to use testing and assessment to aid in performance of physically demanding occupations. They will develop an understanding of the mediating strategies for personnel working in physically demanding and environmentally harsh occupations.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a 1,000-word thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. In addition to the thread, the student is required to post 2 replies of at least 250 words. Each thread must contain at least three scholarly citations in APA format. Each reply must incorporate at least one scholarly citation in APA format.
The case studies will focus on different environmental factors that impact various occupations, tasks, training, and performance optimization. The student must choose one of the given prompts and answer the question thoroughly in no less than three full pages. The case study must also include at least three citations in APA style.
The student will select a peer-reviewed research article relevant to a physically demanding occupation and a topic covered in the course. The student will review and critique their selected article. The journal article review must be two to three full pages in length.
