Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be at least 250 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge, and include 2 peer-reviewed references published within the last 5 years and a Bible reference in current APA format. The thread must have a clear, logical flow that follows the suggested outline, and major points must be stated clearly. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads and focus on a meaningful point made in each, bringing clarity to issues related to Scripture/biblical principles and experience. Each reply must be at least 150 words and include 1 peer-reviewed reference published within the last 5 years and a Bible reference in current APA format. Additionally, the student should seek to find biblical and theological principles innate in the question, answer, or application of the Discussion. The student should support the biblical principles he or she sees in the Discussion with hermeneutical wisdom and insight. The student must pay particular attention to the readings, the questions, and the requirements to do well in the Discussions. All posts must use complete, clear, and concise sentences with excellent spelling and grammar.

Reflection and Application Assignments (4)

The student will complete 4 Reflection and Application Assignments focused on relevant topics tied to the course readings and outcomes outlined in this course. Each Reflection and Application Assignment will be completed in 2 parts. In total, each assignment must be 300 words, using APA citations as relevant. The student must include at least 1 scholarly peer-reviewed article (not a website) of any age (other than the textbook) that is relevant to the topic at hand, plus any additional, supplementary sources the student wants to use to address the biblical reflection portion of the assignment. The assignment must contain title and reference pages. Main points must be clearly stated and easily understood, with exceptional writing and no spelling or grammar errors.

The first part of each assignment is an application of the material covered in the course. This often will take the form of a response to a question or a reading. The student must make arguments for a particular position, with a logical progression of ideas to reach conclusions that show critical thinking. Opinions and facts must be clearly distinguished and others’ ideas attributed to selected sources. The student must present opposing viewpoints fairly and conduct a thorough analysis of each issue raised in the paper. Originality, creativity, and true interaction with the sources (rather than restatement) must be evident throughout.

The second part of each assignment is a reflection component focused on how to integrate a biblical worldview when applying information vocationally. The reflection must be theologically astute, hermeneutically sound, and professionally helpful.

EHS Research: Outline Assignments (2)

The student will create 2 EHS Research: Outline Assignments, which will prepare the student for the EHS Research: OSHA Effectiveness Paper Assignment and the EHS Research: Creating an Effective Hazard Control Plan Paper Assignment. The student will write a 2–3-page outline, excluding the required title page, of his or her respective research paper in current APA format. The outline must exhibit only an APA outline structure arranged in an alphanumeric format, including full sentences, and must be double-spaced with no blank spaces. It must include each of the following as Level 1 headings: Thesis Summary (at least 2 full sentences), Topic Background, Opposing Viewpoints, Best Supported Position, and Conclusions. All 5 resources used for this assignment and the associated papers must be peer-reviewed and published within the last 5 years, in addition to the Bible or textbook. A biblical worldview must be integrated into the student’s ideas.

EHS Research: Paper Assignments (2)

The student will write 2 concise papers that address topics of significant importance to the safety profession. Each of the EHS Research: Paper Assignments require a 1,200–1,400-word paper following current APA formatting. The papers must include a title page and a reference page, which will not count toward the length requirement, and proper section headings throughout as listed in the assignment instructions. Papers must include at least 5 peer-reviewed resources, not including the Bible or textbook, published within the last 5 years and focused on the topic at hand. The following must be present: a clear thesis statement and indication of the topic, a clear overview of the paper’s content, clear transitions between paragraphs and sections, and a conclusion with a good summary of the main issues and points for further study. Main points must be clearly stated and easily understood, with no spelling or grammar errors. The student must make arguments for a particular position in response to the prompt, with a logical progression of ideas to reach conclusions that show critical thinking. All components of the prompt in the assignment instructions must be addressed.
