ENGV 425 Concrete Structure Design

This course provides the students the second of two design application courses in structures. Following structural analysis, this course presents the concrete design concepts of beams, columns, slabs, walls, and footings.

Most structures are of either steel or concrete construction. Notable concrete structures include New York’s Guggenheim Museum and the Sydney Opera House. The Hoover Dam and China’s Three Gorges Dams are engineering marvels. These structures show how concrete can be used for aesthetics and for societal purposes. This course develops the student’s knowledge base to be able to apply design concepts in concrete structures and continues to develop the engineering analysis skills essential in civil engineering. The course includes a team-based design project.

Homework Assignments (8)

The student will complete 8 homework assignments. Each homework assignment will include problem sets that cover the material learned in the corresponding chapter readings. 

Concrete Structure Project Assignment

The student will complete a project that will utilize and apply the knowledge and understanding of the course and live lecture content to foster critical thinking skills and prepare the student for real-world complexities.

Quizzes (6)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned modules. Each quiz will contain a file upload question and have a time limit of 60 minutes. The Quiz: Final Exam will have a time limit of 120 minutes.
