Course Description

The course examines the principles of systems engineering, with emphasis on their application throughout the life cycle. Methodology is based on a total systems view of the user.

Rationale

Engineering Managers often serve as or work along side systems engineers and project managers. In a complex engineering environment it is essential to have a firm foundation in systems thinking and systems engineering principles and practices.

Course Assignment

Textbook readings and lecture presentations

Textbook readings and short lectures highlighting the key topics of each reading will be provided for most modules. Some modules contain reading assignments from external sources.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the prompt provided for each discussion and follow this up with a reply to 2 other classmates' threads. Each thread must be 300-350 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. Each reply must be 300-350 words.

The student is required to complete 4 Reverse Engineering-related assignments that will give him/her an opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the lessons learned during the associated module.

New Product Design Assignments (10)

The student is required to complete 10 New Product Design-related assignments that will give him/her an opportunity to demonstrate mastery of the lessons learned during the associated module.

Each quiz will cover the Textbook reading material for the Module: Week in which it is assigned.
