Discussions (6)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences that foster a spirit of community and collegiality, but the student must also view these academic assignments as formal requirements. Therefore, the student is required to submit a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be 300 – 500 words. In addition to the thread, the student must reply to the threads of at least two classmates. Each reply must be a minimum of 200 words and promote discussion past simply agreeing. The first post must be supported using specific examples from the Learn items for the Module: Week.
Reading Response Assignments (8)
The student will write eight (8) responses to the Learn items in the Module: Week that addresses the prompts provided in the assignment instructions. Each response will contain two parts of 5 – 6 sentences each, citing content from the corresponding Learn items where applicable.
Conference Presentation Paper Assignments (3)
The Conference Presentation Paper Assignment must be 8-10 pages of double-spaced content, with a thesis revolving around the use of language in course text or the English language as a whole. The paper must include five scholarly secondary sources. The paper must be in MLA format.
This assignment will be submitted in three stages: a proposal including an annotated bibliography of 5 scholarly sources and an introduction no longer than one page, a first draft for revision, and a final draft. The final draft will also be submitted as the final discussion post with a video reading for classmates’ view, creating a mock conference experience.
Video Discussion: Conference Presentation Paper
The student will complete one Video Discussion in this course. The student will submit a copy of the final draft of his/her Conference Presentation Paper Assignment and attach a video of him/her presenting the paper to the class in a mock conference setting. The student will then read/watch two classmates’ posts and comment on their content and style in the replies.
