Course Description
This course is designed to provide student exploration of mixed methods research, which combines qualitative and quantitative research methods to enhance the understanding of complex social phenomena in social sciences. The course will cover the basic principles and concepts of mixed methods research, including its philosophical underpinnings, design strategies, data collection and analysis techniques, and integration of findings. Students will be able to design, conduct, analyze, and write up mixed methods research studies that are appropriate for their own research interests and professional field.

Rationale
The objective of this course is to teach doctoral candidates what a mixed methods approach to research is, as well as how to conduct a mixed methods study. Candidates will be taught about the foundations of mixed methods research, the different mixed methods designs, and how to successfully complete mixed methods research. At the end of the course, students will have completed a mini mixed methods study.

The candidate will locate 4 mixed methods peer-reviewed journal articles in the field of education and write a 4-6 page regarding mixed methods methodology. The paper must include at least 4 references, all of which must be a scholarly journal published within the past 5 years. (CLO: A, D)
The candidate will write a 4-6-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on sampling and ethical considerations for mixed methods research. The paper must include at least 5 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLO: C, E)
The candidate will create a PowerPoint presentation for a mixed methods proposal utilizing the template provided. The focus is on quality in mixed methods research. The PowerPoint must include at least 5 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLO: A, C, E)
