EDUC 750 Survey of Educational Research

This course introduces candidates to a range of methods used in educational research. This survey of educational research methods addresses the difference between qualitative and quantitative research and basic versus applied research methods.

The objective of this course is to prepare the doctoral candidate with a basic understanding of the nature of educational research and the range of research designs employed in social science research.

Discussions (5)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to create 5 threads in response to the provided prompt, one for each discussion. Each thread must be 400–600 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates. Each reply must be 200–300 words. Both the threads and replies must each include at least 1 peer-reviewed source and the integration of 1 Bible verse. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Research Critique Assignments (3)

The candidate will critique three research studies during the course. The candidate must analyze and critique one traditional qualitative research study, one traditional quantitative research study, and one applied study, mixed-methods, or program evaluation research study. Each analysis must be 4–6 pages (not including the required title and references pages) and adhere to current APA format. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)

Quizzes (6)

The candidate will complete 6 quizzes during the course. Each quiz will cover the textbook material for the assigned Modules: Weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 25 questions, and have no time limit. (CLO: A, B, C, D)
