EDUC 750 Survey of Educational Research
Course Description
This course introduces candidates to a range of methods used in educational research. This survey of educational research methods addresses the difference between qualitative and quantitative research and basic versus applied research methods.

Rationale
The objective of this course is to prepare the doctoral candidate with a basic understanding of the nature of educational research and the range of research designs employed in social science research.

Discussions (2)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to create 1 thread in response to the provided prompt, one for each discussion. Each thread must be 400–600 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge supported with at least 1 peer-reviewed source and 1 biblical citation in current APA format. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to the threads of at least 2 classmates, supporting the replies with at least 1 peer-reviewed source and 1 biblical citation in current APA format. Each reply must be 200–300 words. (CLO: E, F)
Research Design Project Assignments (6)
The candidate will complete parts of the Research Design Project (RDP) throughout the term. There are 6 components in the project. There are 3 pre-matrices where the candidate will identify research articles for the different research methods. The information from the 3 pre-matrices will be used to develop 3 matrices. Each matrix will have a formal narrative explanatory section.
Research Design Project Pre-Matrices
For each pre-matrix, the candidate will find education research articles on the same topic using the specified research design(s) provided in the template. Current APA format is expected.
Research Design Project Matrices
For the matrices, the candidate will identify methods, information, and critique the studies. This assignment helps the candidate learn how to evaluate research, identify the main components of good research, and start building his/her literature review. A template is provided, and current APA format is expected. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F)
Quizzes (3)
The candidate will complete 3 quizzes during the course. Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain multiple-choice and/or true/false questions, allow 1 attempt, and will not be timed. (CLO: A, B, C, D)
