EDUC 732 Principles of Human Performance Technology

This course addresses instructional design through human performance technology. It examines the gap between what human performance is occurring within an organization and what human performance should be occurring. Students will learn about human performance technology and identify solutions to address performance gaps within learning environments.

The field of human performance technology (HPT) is having a significant impact on learning environments of all varieties (corporate, military, higher education, etc.) in general and specifically on the applications of educational technology, e-learning and the online classroom. The 21st century educational technologist must have a clear understanding of the concepts and applications of HPT in the discipline.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the candidate is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 400 words, demonstrate course-related knowledge and be supported by at least two scholarly sources. Citations and a reference list is required in APA format. In addition to the thread, the candidate is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 150 words and be supported by at least one scholarly source published within the past 5 years. (CLO: A, B)

Journal Critique Assignments (3)

The candidate will write three comparative critiques of 5 articles each. The first critique will address articles in the general category of human performance technology. The second critique will address articles that specifically deal with the application of human performance technology in a learning environment. The final critique will address articles dealing with the application of human performance technology with educational technology. Each of these three comparative critiques must be at least 4-6 pages in addition to the title and reference pages. The critique must be submitted as a Word document in APA format, however, an abstract is not required. (CLO: B, C)

What is HPT? Video Assignment

The candidate will submit a 3 – 4-minute video answering the question, “What is HPT and the HPT Model?” The video can be recorded using any screencasting software. The video will consist of narration over slides created using a presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, etc. (CLO: A, B)

Human Performance Technology Research Project – Planning and Outline

The candidate will write a planning document for a paper due in Week/Module 6 regarding how the HPT Model can be applied in a learning environment that pertains to the use of educational technology. This assignment is designed to aid the student to prepare for paper due in Week 6 paper by using an Artifical Intelligence (AI) app, namely CoPilot to organize ideas, develop a structured outline, and select scholarly sources that applies the HPT model to a specific educational context. Human Performance Technology Project – Research Paper Assignment

The candidate will submit the paper regarding how the HPT Model can be applied to technology used in an educational setting that was planned in Week/Module 5. The paper must be 10-12 pages in addition to the title, abstract, and reference pages and be supported by at least 10 scholarly sources. Sources on technology must be within 5 years although the Kidd and Song textbook may also be used. The paper must be in current APA format. (CLO: B, D)

Human Performance Technology Research Project – Presentation Assignment

The candidate will prepare a presentation based on the research paper and providing the practical application of the influence of human performance technology on the use of educational technology. The presentation will be submitted as a 15 to 20 minute video. The video can be recorded using any screencasting software. The video should be recorded as narration accompanying the use of a presentation software such as PowerPoint, Prezi, Keynote, etc. (CLO: E)
