Course Description

Candidates will participate in a supervised 30-hour field practicum designed to link theory with practice. This practicum may only be repeated one time with prior approval from the program chair. Completion of at least 30 hours is required in order to pass the practicum course.

Rationale

The candidate is required to engage in developmental and sequential field experiences throughout his/her program. The candidate will complete practicum experiences that correspond to the co-requisite course identified in the candidate’s degree completion plan. The candidate will assist in the classroom as well as teach one or more formal lessons.

Field Experience: Part 1 – Planning Your Field Experience Assignment

In-Person

The candidate will use the provided template to document the projected 30-hour practicum placement schedule (CLO: E).

OR

Virtual

The candidate will purchase a Teaching Channel subscription to complete the virtual practicum (CLO: E).

Field Experience: Part 2 – Self-Monitoring Assignment

In-Person

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the practicum (CLO: E).

OR

Virtual

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the virtual practicum (CLO: E).

Field Experience: Part 3 – Pre-SCRIP Self-Assessment Assignment

In-Person

The candidate will reflect on the SOE SCRIP dispositions and rate his/her performance on the SCRIP dispositions during the practicum. The candidate will write a justification (3–5 sentences) with specific examples (minimum of 3) to support the self-rating given for each disposition. (CLO: C, D)

OR

Virtual

The candidate will reflect on the SOE SCRIP Dispositions and rate the teacher’s performance on the SOE SCRIP Dispositions during the virtual practicum experience. (CLO: C, D)

Field Experience: Part 4 – Self-Monitoring Assignment

In-Person

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the practicum (CLO: E).

OR

Virtual

The candidate will complete an assignment to track their progress in the virtual practicum (CLO: E).

Field Experience: Part 6 – Pre-CPAST Self-Assessment Assignment

In-Person

The candidate will use the Pre-CPAST assignment to reflect upon the overall practicum experience, including the lesson presentation. The candidate will plan and teach one formal lesson during the practicum. (CLO: B, C)

OR

Virtual

The candidate will use the lesson plan developed in the aligning content course to teach the lesson and complete a reflection on the experience.  (CLO: B, C)

In-Person

The host teacher will evaluate the candidate’s performance during the practicum using the Pre-CPAST assessment. (CLO: A, C)

OR

Virtual

The candidate will use the Pre-CPAST assignment to reflect upon the teacher’s performance in the virtual practicum experience. (CLO: A, C)

In-Person

The candidate will log all completed practicum hours in FEM in LiveText. The candidate’s host teacher will verify and approve the hours logged in LiveText. (CLO: A)

OR

Virtual

The candidate will select 3-5 of their favorite videos from the Teaching Channel videos from the virtual practicum experience and compose a 650-word, 4 paragraph reflection. (CLO: A)

In-Person

The candidate will write a thank-you note to the Host Teacher showing gratitude for the privilege of completing the practicum in his/her classroom. The candidate will then take a picture of the note and submit it to the assignment submission link. (CLO: C)

OR

Virtual

The candidate will complete the assignment to track the completion of the virtual practicum. (CLO: C)

Quiz: Acknowledgement

After reviewing the information related to the practicum and the co-requisite course, the student will complete a three-question acknowledgment quiz. The quiz will contain 3 true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: A, B, C, D, E).

Quiz: Practicum Request

The quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned module. The quiz will contain 5 multiple choice and true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: E).

After reviewing the two Mapping Out Your Field Experiences videos, the candidate will complete a quiz that will contain 5 multiple choice and true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: E).

Quiz: Practicum Expectations

After reviewing the Field Experience Handbook and Advising Guide, the candidate will complete the Quiz: Practicum Expectations. The quiz will contain true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: E).

After reviewing the LiveText Information document, the candidate will complete Quiz: LiveText. The quiz will contain 5 multiple-choice and true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: E).

The candidate will complete this quiz to track their progress in the practicum preparation. The quiz will contain 2 true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: E).

Quiz: Career Services

After reviewing the Read: Career Services item, the candidate will complete a quiz that will contain 5 multiple-choice and true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: C).

Quiz: Practicum Placement

The candidate will complete a quiz to indicate if a placement has been secured for the practicum The quiz will contain 2 true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: E).

Quiz: Field Experience: Part 5 – Field Experience Summary

The candidate will complete a quiz verifying that he/she updated their Field Experience Summary (FES). The quiz will contain 5 multiple-choice and true/false questions and have a 1 hour time limit (CLO: A).
