Rationale
As a basis for their work in the human services field, counselors and community care workers must demonstrate a thorough understanding of counseling theories and treatment strategies in the care of their clients. Applying such strategies within a Christian worldview framework permits a holistic approach that addresses the emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual dimensions of the client.

Discussions (3)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will create a thread in response to the provided prompt. Each thread must demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student will reply to at least two classmates’ threads. For each Discussion, the initial thread must be at least 400 words and the replies must be at least 200 words. Each thread must include at least 3 scholarly journal articles. Each reply must include at least 2 scholarly journal articles. All posts must demonstrate correct, formal writing style in current APA format (CLO: A, B, C, D).
Discussion: Contemporary Theory Presentation
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will research, evaluate, and present a contemporary counseling theory to the class. The presentation should address the major components of the theory as outlined in the assignment instructions. The student may develop the presentation using Adobe creative suite software, video, narrated PowerPoint, a web page, etc. The student must also reply to at least 2 classmates’ presentations with a minimum of 250 words (CLO: A, B, C, D).
Contemporary Theory Presentation Topic Selection Assignment
The student will select a topic for the Discussion: Contemporary Theory Presentation that will be given later in the class. This should be no longer than a paragraph.
Personal Counseling Theory Paper Assignment
The student will combine various prescribed sources and additional outside research to describe their emerging “working theory” of counseling. The working theory can either focus on one secular theory that the student likes, or be a combination of several secular theories that the student finds interesting. This will be a 15-page paper (not including title page, abstract, and references). A minimum of 15 sources are required (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F).
Quizzes (2)
Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned modules: weeks. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain 80 multiple-choice and true/false questions, and have a 2 hour and 40 minute time limit (CLO: A, B, D).
