Course Description
This course will examine the biblical and philosophical foundations of making disciples by examining disciple-making in the Gospels, the book of Acts and in the Epistles. Careful attention will be given to the commands of Christ and the practice (interpretation) of the early disciples. Disciple-making down through church history will also be reviewed.

Rationale
The purpose of this course is to examine Christian discipleship methods and models down through the centuries. Particular attention will be devoted to certain important leaders throughout church history. This course will fulfill the purposes of the Doctor of Ministry degree by furthering the students’ understanding of discipleship models and methods to implement in their context.

Discussions
Discussion assignments are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each forum. Each thread must be at least 400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 200 words. (CLOs: A, B, C)
Written Assignments (4)
The student will write four 1,500-word Reflection Papers in current Turabian format that focuses on several historical discipleship topics chosen by the instructor. Each paper must include at least 5 references in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
1. Biblical Foundations
The student will submit the topic, cover page outline (table of contents), and the first 2,000 words (8 pages) of his/her term Research Paper. Part 1 must be in current Turabian format and include at least 5 references. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
2. Final Submission
The student will complete his/her 5,000-word research-based paper in current Turabian format that focuses on the historical nature of discipleship throughout church history. The paper must include at least 10 references in current Turabian format in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. (CLOs: A, B, C, D, E)
