COUC 730 Issues in Integration
Course Description
Students critically explore issues related to ethical and effective integration of faith and spirituality in counseling, counselor education, supervision, research and scholarship, and leadership and advocacy. Special attention is given to the personhood and professionalism of the counselor/counselor educator when providing services in a multi-cultural society.

Rationale
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to various issues related to the integration of religious belief, spirituality and professional counseling. Dominant and current approaches to integration are examined along with other significant topics related to Christian integration. Students are challenged to think critically concerning the advantages and disadvantages of each approach and the impact of each issue discussed. Students are also engaged with the development of their personal approach to handling issues related to integration and the development of an integrated model for their personal use.
Method of Instruction: This course is delivered using a digital synchronous intensive format. Students attend 36-40 hours of video-based instruction. In addition to the one week of digital synchronous class time, students are expected to complete additional work online both pre and post intensive over the duration of this 16-week course.

Course Synthesis Paper Assignment
Students will critically analyze and synthesize content directly from the Entwistle (2021) text entitled Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity (4th Edition), and Grudem (1999) Bible Doctrine: Essential Teachings of the Christian Faith and develop a treatment plan. Follow the assignment instructions and adhere to the grading rubric for this foundational reflection assignment. (CLOs: A, F)
Discussions (15)
Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student will complete 15 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at least 250 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module. The student must then post 2 replies of at least 100 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the assigned Module. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 2 scholarly citations, APA format not required. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in, APA format not required. Acceptable sources include the textbooks and the Bible.
Quiz: Dispositions Reflection
This Dispositions Reflection quiz will ask the student to rate his/her self on the nine dispositions required for this program by our accrediting bodies. Using the Learn material from the assigned Modules, the student will complete 10 multiple choice and essay questions. The quiz will be open book/notes, will allow for 1 attempt, and will have a 60-minute time limit.
