Rationale
School counselors are often the first and sometimes the only mental health professional a child will meet. Since school counselors are the frontline workers of the mental health field, they must be able to identify when intervention is needed, assess the extent of the concern, and provide basic or initial mental health treatment interventions.
A goal of this course is to assist the student in identifying when interventions are needed through diagnostic criteria and assessments. During this course, the student will learn how to identify goals, objectives, and interventions to assist his/her students’ growth. The student will apply this knowledge by creating individual and group treatment plans based on evidence-based research.
Method of Instruction: This 8 week course is delivered in a digital asynchronous format, with Canvas® as the primary instructional delivery method. Each student will complete one module per week over the duration of the course.
