CJUS 649 Victimology

This course will study the concept of victimization and the prevailing theories that are found within the field of victimology. This course will also examine and review the role that the victims play within the criminal justice system as well as the impact of various responses by the criminal justice system upon the victim. Additionally, this course will explore how victims are impacted psychologically, emotionally, and financially following victimization.

Discussions (4)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 300-400 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 200-300 words. Each reply must incorporate at least 1 scholarly citation in APA format. Any sources cited must have been published within the last seven years. Acceptable sources include assigned readings, the Bible, or scholarly journal articles.

Position Paper Assignments (4)

The student will write 4 position papers in current APA format. In these papers, students will take a position on four issues within the field of victimology.

Each quiz will be completed after accessing Victim Assistance Training Online (VAT). VAT Online is a foundational web-based victim assistance training program that offers victim service providers and allied professionals the opportunity to acquire the essential skills and knowledge they need to more effectively assist victims of crime. VAT Online has four sections: Basics, Core Competencies and Skills, Crimes, and Specific Considerations for Providing Victim Services.

Each quiz will involve completing the corresponding Interact item in the Learn items for the assigned Module: Week. Students will complete the VAT Module and submit their certificate of completion in each Canvas Quiz.
