CJUS 647 Restorative Justice in the Community

This course is designed to explore the impact of crimes against individuals within the community and how they affect the community collectively. This course will also consider the role of the community in the restorative justice process and the impact that restorative justice may have upon the community and the offender.

The purpose of this course is for the student to examine the theoretical foundations, guiding principles, empirical evidence, and implementation of restorative justice within the community. It is important for students in the School of Government to understand the central foundations, principles and implementation of restorative justice in order to understand how it reduces conflicts and provides for a sense of justice within the community, thereby establishing a sense that justice has been served for the benefit of everyone.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to provide a thread in response to the provided prompt for each Discussion. Each thread must be 1000 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to two other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 500 words.

The student will write a 3-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on Restorative Justice in Probation. The paper must include at least two reference(s) in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible.  

Midterm Assignment

The student will write a 10-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on Theory and Restorative Justice. The paper must include at least four reference(s) in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. 

Essay: Victim and Community Needs After Mass Violence Assignment

The student will write a 3-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on The Needs of Victims and Communities After Mass Violence. The paper must include at least two reference(s) in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. 

Essay: Issues of Implementation Assignment

The student will write a 3-page research-based paper in current APA format that focuses on Issues of Implementation & the Future of Restorative Justice. The paper must include at least two reference(s) in addition to the course textbooks and the Bible. 

Quizzes (3)

Each quiz will cover the Learn material for the assigned Module: Week. Each quiz will be open-book/open-notes, contain four essay questions, and has no time limit.
