CHMN 679 Capstone

The Capstone is designed for those with two or more years of full-time, paid vocational ministry experience. Course approval must be done in advance by the Director of Experiential Education. This course will require students to resource knowledge acquired from the entirety of the coursework completed in the MDIV degree program. The core competencies and knowledge from each major area of the degree will be resourced in a comprehensive project that outlines a broad understanding in divinity and a developing ministerial identity.

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt. The thread must be 300-500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 3 classmates’ threads. Each reply must be 100-150 words. Spurgeon Reflective Writing Assignments (4)

The student will complete a series of reflective writings based on the assigned readings on the life of Charles H. Spurgeon. The student will be asked to respond to various questions based on key points in the reading about this life changing preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (CLO: A, B, C)

Ryken Book Study Assignment

The student will express in three parts what they have learned from studying Puritan values and practices. The student will write a total of 3—4-pages in addressing each of three sections; each section has its own required page length. (CLO: A, B, C)

Comprehensive Reflection Paper Assignment

The student will write the Comprehensive Reflection Paper in three parts as a reflection of all of the student’s Master of Divinity studies with particular consideration of the texts, presentations, and assignments in this course. The student must include a minimum of 12 total citations in current Turabian format. The total length of the paper should be between 7—8-pages, not including the title page and bibliography. Hull and Sobels Book Study Assignment

The student will express what is learned from studying Hull and Sobels reveal from Scripture what the gospel is and its application is carrying out the Great Commission of the Savior. The student will write a total of 3—4-pages in addressing each of three sections; each section has its own required page length. (CLO: A, C)

Witnessing Report Assignment

The student will write a 150-250-word report on a witnessing encounter that occurred during this course. The report must briefly describe the person(s) with whom the student shared, describe what was shared and how it was shared, and describe the response of the other person(s). (CLO: A, C)
