Incorporating technology into mental health care is not merely a trend but a necessity in today’s digital age. This telemental health course prepares mental health professionals for the evolving landscape of mental health care delivery. By equipping students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical considerations in telemental health, students learn to utilize technology effectively to enhance access to mental health services and promote holistic well-being in diverse communities.

Method of Instruction: This 8-week course is delivered in a digital asynchronous format, with Canvas as the primary instructional delivery method. The student will complete one module per week over the duration of the course.

Course Requirements Checklist

After reading the Course Syllabus and Student Expectations, the student will complete the related checklist found in the Course Overview.

The student will conduct a systems check to assess their readiness for telemental health counseling. After completing the systems check, the student will write a 1–2 paragraph report summarizing the results. The report must include a 1–2 minute video of their setup and a reflection on any challenges encountered during the process, along with how those challenges were resolved. The assignment must adhere to current APA format (a title and reference page). The report must include a minimum of 2 scholarly resources. (CLO: D) 

Video Discussion

For this Video Discussion, the student will create and upload a 5-6 minute video in response to the prompt. Each video must demonstrate course related knowledge and assertions must be supported by by a minimum of 2 scholarly resources. The student will reply to a peer or a question posted by the professor in a 2–3-minute video. Reply must be supported by a minimum of 1 scholarly resource. (CLO: A, B, D, F, G).

The student will review the Counseling Compact, analyze its impact on their state, and evaluate ethical and legal considerations for professional counselors. The paper should be 2–3 pages, (excluding title page, abstract and reference page), written in current APA format, including a title page, abstract, introduction, body, conclusion, and references. The paper must include a minimum of 4 scholarly resources published within the last five years. The paper should be well thought out and demonstrate critical thinking, self-evaluation, and practical application. (CLO: A, B, C)

The student will identify a telemental health professional who works with culturally diverse populations and conduct a 15–20 minute podcast-style interview. The interview must include a minimum of 5 scholarly resources in current APA format published within the last five years. (CLO: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H)

The student will explore the ethical, practical, and cultural considerations in telehealth counseling through a comprehensive case study. The paper should be 3–5 pages (excluding title page, abstract and reference page), written in current APA format, including a title page, abstract, introduction, body, conclusion, and references. The paper must include a minimum of 5 scholarly resources published within the last five years. The paper should be well thought out and demonstrate critical thinking, self-evaluation, and practical application. (CLO: A, C, F)

Quizzes (10)

Each quiz will cover the Textbook material for the assigned module. Each quiz will contain 15 multiple-choice questions and have a 30-minute time limit.
