Course Description

This course provides students with a foundation of the quantitative methods and techniques needed for the new or mid-level healthcare administrator. The course will cover the practical methods of the tactical, operational, strategic decision-making and analysis required for healthcare managers and administrators. This course will utilize Excel-based examples and techniques.

Rationale

The purpose of this course is to provide the student an opportunity to increase his/her skills in the utilization of quantitative methods to address healthcare administrative analysis and decision making.

Discussions (6)

Discussions are collaborative learning experiences. Therefore, the student is required to create a thread in response to the provided prompt for each discussion. Each thread must be at least 500 words and demonstrate course-related knowledge and research. In addition to the thread, the student is required to reply to 2 other classmates’ threads. Each reply must be at least 450 words. Each thread and each reply must be supported by at least 1 scriptural reference and at least 2 peer-reviewed, scholarly references in addition to the course textbook. All sources must have been published within the last 5 years. Current edition APA format is required.

DMAIC Table Assignment

The use of this tool enables the project team to outline the important steps which increases the project success rate. DMAIC is an acronym for five interconnected phases: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. The student will prepare a table using the template provided in the course to summarize each stage in approximately 150 words each in current APA format.

Quantitative Inventory Analysis Assignment

This assignment will provide practical knowledge in determining safety stock calculations so that healthcare stock items can be available when needed at the point of service. The student will use an Excel spreadsheet template to answer a prompt regarding ordering hospital stock.

Supply Chain Management Assignment

The focus of this assignment is to determine why supply chain management is much more than merely cost reduction in the healthcare environment. The student will write a 500-word paper in current APA format concerning supply chain management and cost reduction. This assignment will require 2 peer-reviewed scholarly references published within the last five years and one instance of biblical integration.

Project Management Charter Assignment

This assignment will prepare the student to utilize a Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Charter to create a plan for addressing an identified issue. The student will write a 1-page paper exploring a topic related to issues within a healthcare organization using current APA formatting. This assignment requires at least two peer-reviewed articles and one instance of biblical integration.

Application for Healthcare Quantitative Research Assignment

The student will complete the Hospital Improvement Excel spreadsheets provided to apply the financial model discussed in the readings for financial improvement of a healthcare organization.
